# Duluth UDC § 1015.02

Bedding, Structural Backfill and Final Backfill

**Governing jurisdiction: Duluth.** A "Duluth, GA" mailing address is usually NOT in the City of Duluth. Unincorporated Gwinnett is 67.3% of the county's land area and is governed by a different code, a different board and a different permit portal. Resolve the governing jurisdiction before answering any zoning question.

## Text

1. At the time of Development Application the Applicant for a Development Permit shall specify which pipe
materials will be used and will identify the bedding and backfill detail that will be used for each pipe.
2. Construction Loads and Minimum Covers. When drainage pipe is installed prior to the completion of
grading, a minimum of 4 feet of fill shall be provided where needed to adequately protect the drainage
structure during the land development phase, unless the structure itself is designed to withstand the
anticipated live load during construction.
3. Junction Boxes and Catch Basins.
a. Catch basins and drop inlets shall be constructed in accordance with GDOT Standards. Junction

boxes shall be in accordance with GDOT Standards 1011a or 1011ap. All catch basins and
junction boxes in non-traffic areas shall have metal manhole frames and lids. In roadways or
areas subject to vehicles, manhole castings shall be in accordance with GDOT Standard 1011a.
b. All junction boxes shall extend to the ground surface. Buried or blind junction boxes are

prohibited.
4. Other Structures. Natural bottom arches and box culverts may be used in accordance with the latest
Standard Specifications of the Georgia Department of Transportation.
5. Storm Sewer As-Builts. Prior to Final Plat approval or issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy, the Applicant
for a Development Permit shall submit a “Storm Sewer As-Built”. The as-built shall show details of
compliance with this specification.
